THREE GUYS AND… A MOVIE
series created by Marvin Mercer and Nick Stephenson
“THE LAST JEDI: HOW WILL THE INTERNET REACT?”
written by Dominick Cappello
I’ve been wondering how the internet will react to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”? Specifically, how will it react if there any major revelations about Rey? The film opens in two weeks and I have a sneaking suspicion that whatever happens there will lots and lots of griping, eye-rolling, and people who say they know better than the filmmakers.
Some of this is because there are fans who have their own theories about Rey and where she comes from and what her destiny is. They will be disappointed if things don’t pan out the way they have envisioned it. Please, don’t be salty if the film you see in theaters differs from the film you’ve written in your head. And then there’s those who nitpick and bitch about everything because they think that will make them the next Mr. Plinkett.
Who are Rey’s parents? Well, if she turns out to be a Skywalker or a Kenobi, people will say that’s uninspired and the filmmakers are devoid of originality. If Rey has no connection to previously established characters, then I think it will be called anti-climactic. If Rey turns to the dark side, which I think would be interesting, the filmmakers will be accused of betraying the character and retreading Anakin Skywalker’s arc. If she becomes a Jedi and the hero of the trilogy, it will be said that the filmmakers are afraid to take risks and are lazily retreading Luke Skywalker’s arc. It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.
I implore you, have an open mind and try not to dismiss anything simply for the sake of being contrarian. That being said, I totally understand if you have reservations about the Porgs because I too am worried about how cutesy they will be.
