As I said when the teaser trailer was posted back in July, what makes him so fascinating is that he’s like Ed Wood, or should I say Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Ed Wood. A man who has a passion for filmmaking despite being devoid of talent. Him being oblivious to his lack of talent and his unwavering confidence is what makes us a root for him. Tommy wanted to be famous, but had to settle for infamy. Why shoot in an alley set when a real alley is available? Why hump a dress after your character has already committed suicide? Because it’s the magical world of Tommy Wiseau.
